College Football: Rowland nets OVC honor for second week in a row

Tennessee State senior and former Ravenwood football star Chris Rowland was named the Ohio Valley Conference Specialist of the Week.

The Tigers fell 49-44 against Jackson State in the Southern Heritage Classic despite Rowland’s third consecutive game racking up major offense for TSU.

Rowland grabbed seven receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown and returned a 96-yard kickoff for another score. He closed with 267 all-purpose yards.

The senior leads the nation in all-purpose yards with 234.3 per game.

Rowland has been honored in back-to-back weeks by the OVC. He was Co-Player of the Week last week after the Tigers 45-26 loss at Middle Tennessee State where he finished with 11 catches for a career-high 202 yards and two TDs.

Rowland has 29 receptions for 513 yards and four touchdowns in just three games to begin his senior campaign. The 513 yards lead the nation as well. 

Tennessee State opens at Hale Stadium on Saturday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
