Leigh Walters

Page junior Leigh Walters claimed the individual girls title to lead a strong Williamson County contingent at the Voyles Classic Saturday at The Hermitage to kick off the cross country season.

More than 80 schools were represented. The Brentwood girls and Franklin boys collected Class AAA team titles.

Walters, who finished third overall at the large schools state cross country meet last season, finished in 18 minutes, 4 seconds to win the overall girls title. Brentwood freshman Brooke Tyll finished third in 18:50 and Auldyn Plant of Nolensville (19:29) closed in fifth to lead county finishers.

Tyll led the Lady Bruins as Eden Mittelsdorf, Kaitlyn Vanderkolk, Sidney Bennett, Cari Pautienus and Bronwyn Harris all finished in the top 25 overall. Brentwood didn’t have a senior run in the race.

Independence claimed second, led by Emma Wilson’s 10th place finish in 19:58. Franklin was fourth and Ravenwood sixth in the team standings.

On the boys' side, Brentwood freshman Brody Chapman finished fourth in 16:24 to lead the Bruins, who captured second in the team standings.

Page senior Jacob Cucullu (16:25) finished just behind Chapman as county competitors clinched places 4-8 in the overall standings. Franklin senior Evan Guzman (16:37) paced the Rebels, who edged out Brentwood and Independence for the team title. Less than 50 seconds separated the top five Franklin finishers.
