The Battle Ground Academy football team ended a three-game slide in dominating fashion Thursday in Franklin. The Wildcats blasted visiting Lincoln County 48-0 in an early start to Week 9 by racking up 401 yards of offense while yielding just 39 yards.
The BGA defense scored twice – a Daniel Morra blocked punt returned for a TD and a Kaleb Seay interception return – and allowed just three first downs all game. Lincoln County gained just 16 yards on 21 carries and managed only 23 yards on 4-of-11 passing.
Briston Bennett rushed for two touchdowns and 78 yards on a dozen carries, while Sean Williams gained 82 yards on 10 touches, including a 22-yard TD run in the third quarter.
BGA struck first in the opening frame on Morra’s defensive gem and then blew the game open with 27 points in the second quarter. Bennett scored his first TD at the 10:42 mark in the frame and then scored on a 5-yard run with 4:11 left in the half.
Seay followed with his pick-6 and Garnett Hollis Jr. hauled in a 12-yard strike from quarterback Nick Semptimphelter inside the final 30 seconds of the half. After Jack Sauder’s kick, the home team held a 35-0 lead.
Semptimphelter closed 12-of-17 for 171 yards with the TD to Hollis Jr. and an interception. Hollis Jr. snagged six catches for 79 yards and Antonio Stevens added three grabs for 62 yards. Stevens also had five tackles and a sack on defense.
BGA improved to 5-3 overall coming off a 16-14 setback against region rival Franklin Road Academy last week. The Wildcats close the regular season at Spring Hill next week and on the road at Lipscomb Academy on Nov. 1.
The Falcons fell to 2-6 overall.
