Football – Christ Presbyterian Academy at Battle Ground Academy

The Christ Presbyterian Academy football team was forced to cancel their homecoming game against Brentwood High School due to positive COVID-19 cases.

The local football showdown scheduled for Friday at Christ Presbyterian Academy against Brentwood High School was canceled Thursday night due to positive COVID-19 cases at CPA.

In an email to parents, CPA Head of School Nate Morrow indicated that two Lions football players tested positive for COVID-19.

"We are still working to identify those who may have been exposed," Morrow said in the email Thursday. "This information has led us to the difficult decision to cancel the Homecoming football game scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, September 25."

CPA, the top-ranked and unbeaten Division II-AA Nashville school, was set to host No. 5-ranked Class 6A Brentwood Friday night.

The Lions were coming off a 35-10 win at Battle Ground Academy, which also has canceled its football game scheduled for Friday at home against McCallie because of positive tests for the coronavirus.

BGA canceled its game Wednesday afternoon. It's unknown if the positive cases are related.

"The safety of our student athletes and that of the opposing team and community are paramount," Morrow said. "Although we are sad for our team and football community, we believe this to be the wisest course of action at this time."
