NASHVILLE – The Battle Ground Academy football team produced three touchdowns in the first 12 minutes Friday and it was enough to hold on for a Division II-AA Middle Region at Franklin Road Academy.
The Wildcats secured a 21-14 victory and forced four FRA turnovers in their first game since Sept. 18 after enduring COVID-19 safety protocols.
Brett Brown competed 10-of-16 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns, while Sean Williams rushed for 107 yards with one TD on the ground and a 35-yard touchdown reception from Brown in the final seconds of the first quarter as BGA opened a 21-0 lead.
After Williams scored in the opening minutes on a 5-yard run, Brown hit Zach Flores for a 34-yard strike with 1:24 to play in the frame. Less than a minute later, Brown and Williams connected on the only other touchdown from the visitors Friday.
David DeRocher threw touchdowns to Conner Moore early in the second and Jeffrey Vercher with under five minutes to play to lead FRA, but did toss three interceptions.
BGA out-gained FRA 357-222 and won the turnover battle 4-0.
Max Sale anchored the Wildcats defense with 11 tackles, including 2.5 sacks, while Xavier Shaw had 10 tackles and an interception. Williams also collected an interception as did Alex Krause.
Moore snagged 10 catches for 105 yards and a TD for FRA.
BRENTWOOD – Two months into the season, the Brentwood Academy football team owns a perfect record and a No. 1 state ranking.
