The Independence High School football team rolled to a 56-0 Region 6-6A win over Dickson County Friday and paired with Brentwood’s 42-20 win over Franklin, Indy will head to Brentwood next week with the region title essentially hanging in the balance.
The Eagles blasted the visiting Cougars on Homecoming night showing no sign of rust after a lengthy time off due to COVID-19 protocols.
Jaxson Campbell scored three touchdowns, throwing a 38-yard strike to Calvin Wilson and a 12-yarder to Tyler Kondra to go with his own 35-yard TD run. Running back Tre Hartwell added two TDs and 84 yards rushing on just nine touches for the Eagles.
Indy’s Brooks Sapone added a pick-six and Tommy Monohan also collected a touchdown on defense with fumble recovery for a score. The home team defense limited Dickson County to just 77 yards of offense.
The Eagles improved to 5-1 and 3-0 in region. Both Indy and Brentwood sit at 3-0 in the league. The two rivals were set to tangle on Oct. 2, but the game was postponed and both are shifting their original schedule to squeeze in the region battle.
