The Lions came up short in a wild finish in Bell Buckle in Week 6.

With just over two minutes to play and trialing 38-34, GCA’s Kytn Wolf recovered a fumble as the Lions took over late. On the next play, GCA’s Ashton Kelley was intercepted to give the ball right back. Webb’s Avante Harris came away with the pick and the Feet were able to hold on for the win with some help from a penalty against the Lions just two plays later that resulted in a Webb first down.

GCA was flagged for 10 penalties yielding 100 yards, while Webb had 12 penalties for 75 yards.

Each team committed three turnovers in the contest. GCA jumped out a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Webb responded and held a 31-21 lead at the half.

Kelley scored on 1-yard touchdown plunge near the end of the third and after Cruz Hartman’s PAT, the visiting Lions pulled within 31-27. Less than four minutes later, Kelley scored on a 4-yard touchdown run as GCA took a 34-31 lead early in the fourth.

Kelley had just four completions, but did lead GCA with four rushing touchdowns and 81 yards on the ground. Carter Murphy added 103 yards rushing on 10 carries with a TD and also led the defense with four tackles.

Weston Coop guided the Feet back in front when he hit Amos Howard for a 24-yard strike with 4:26 to play. Coop went 17-of-24 for 181 yards and two scores for Webb.

Harris, who also tossed a 20-yard TD to Jordan Jenkins late in the second, led the ground game with 98 yards on 12 carries with a score, while Shemar Fray racked up 76 yards and turned two of his three touches into TDs. Fray scored on runs of 36 and 41 in the first quarter.

Despite scoring a season-high, GCA fell to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in Division II-A east region play. Webb improved for 1-3 in region and overall.

The Lions travel to Lebanon in Week 7 to take on Friendship Christian.
