The Battle Ground Academy football team will not make its scheduled Week 6 trip to McCallie because of a positive COVID-19 test.

Friday night’s scheduled high school football game featuring Division II-AA’s Battle Ground Academy hosting DII-AAA’s McCallie School of Chattanooga was canceled because of a positive COVID-19 test.

BGA officials confirmed that a student tested positive at the Franklin school for the coronavirus and another presented with symptoms. Lauren Self, the Director of Communications at BGA, said both cases “overlap with the football program.”

“In response, we've canceled all football practices for the remainder of the week and the McCallie game,” Self said in an email Wednesday afternoon to the Williamson Herald. “Additionally, we've asked all football players to self-isolate at home and participate synchronously in their classes through Zoom until further notice.”

Self said school officials are conducting more in-depth contact-tracing protocols to see if there is any further action needed.

The Wildcats were coming off a Middle Region loss at home to Christ Presbyterian Academy in Week 5 – a 35-10 setback.
