Riverdale played a near perfect game in the first half, smothering Franklin under an offensive and defensive barrage on the way to a 34-10 win Friday night at Howard Gamble Stadium.

The Warriors, who improved to 2-0, took the opening kick-off 80 yards in just six plays and less than two and-a-half minutes to take a 7-0 lead and they never looked back, adding touchdowns on each of their four first-half possessions.

Franklin coach Donnie Webb found the game analysis to be extremely simple.

“That was just a tail-whipping from head coach versus head coach on down," he said. "In every aspect of the game they dominated us. We’ve got to lick our wounds and get better. It starts with me and I’ve got to fix it.

“My hat is off to Riverdale. That is a good football team and I think Will (Kriesky) has them back and they will be rolling again soon.”

“We played well, but I don’t know if I’d call it a perfect game,” said Riverdale head coach Will Kriesky. “I thought Taylor Yancey played well, I thought our offensive line played well, and I thought Drew Smith ran the ball well. But we made mistakes that’s going to be tough as we move on our schedule. And we’ve got a tough schedule.

“We’ve got to stay humble and hungry.”

Warrior quarterback Yancey was perfect, hitting 15-of-15 for 217 yards before being lifted late in the third quarter. Smith gained 92 yards on 12 carries and scored on runs of 10, 19 and 2 yards in the first half.

Franklin’s (1-1) smaller defense was knocked on it’s heels early, with Smith picking up 48 yards in four carries on the first drive and Yancey exploiting a strong advantage in the secondary.

Penalties also hurt the Rebels. Hit by five flags for 35 yards, two of the infractions in the first half extended Riverdale drives, keeping the Franklin defense on the field too long.

Guy Lipscomb again led Franklin on offense, hitting 11-of-20 passes for 89 yards and an interception while rushing for 37 more on 14 carries. Grayson Bruce picked up 57 yards on 12 carries for the Rebels.

The road gets no easier for the Rebels, who must travel to No. 4-ranked Ravenwood (2-0, 1-0) next week in a Region 6-6A rivalry showdown. The Raptors knocked off Centennial in Week 1 and squeezed past No. 5 Blackman 16-13 on the road Friday.
