SPRING HILL – For the second consecutive game, the Summit High School football team capitalized on an explosive second quarter.
The Spartans scored 28 points in the second frame and shutout visiting Centennial 36-0 on Friday in a Region 7-6A contest to stay unbeaten and improve to 5-0 overall.
Last week, Summit exploded for 35 points in the second in a 55-20 win over Blackman. Similarly, they ended the opening half with a touchdown Friday.
Keaten Wade scored on his second short touchdown run of the night on a 4-yarder after forcing a Centennial turnover as time expired. His twin brother Destin Wade had just broke loose for a 40-yard touchdown run with 51 seconds remaining in the half and four minutes prior to that fired an 18-yard strike to Brady Pierce as the Spartans cruised.
Summit limited Centennial to just 110 yards of offense as the Cougars (3-2), were shutout by a region opponent for a second time. The Spartans racked up 448 yards of offense, including 326 on the ground.
Destin Wade closed 8-of-11 for 117 yards and a TD through the air and also gained 109 yards on eight carries with his 40-yard TD run. Dominick Hollis, who opened the scoring with his own 40-yard touchdown run, had 127 yards on the ground on just seven touches.
Pierce caught four passes for 74 yards for the home team.
Cannon Plowman rushed for 49 yards on 11 carries and also completed four passes for the Cougars.
Summit continues its home stand with a visit from former Class 5A rival Beech next week, while Centennial hosts Dickson County.
