With several high school sports seasons already wrapped up, this week’s Gateway Tire Athlete of the Week award looks a bit different as the Williamson Herald and Gateway Tire & Service Center of Franklin highlight one winner and several top performers while recapping a busy fall season.

This week’s Gateway Tire Male Athlete of the Week is Carson Garner of Franklin after scoring three touchdowns in the Admirals Class 6A second round playoff win at rival Ravenwood on Friday. A female award was not issued this week as several big sports including girls’ soccer cross country and volleyball recently concluded.

Garner edged out teammates Connor Beavon and Taylor Spierto – recent Gateway Tire Male Athlete of the Week winners – for the recognition for the week ending Nov. 15.

“Carson is a dual-sport athlete and to be honest he’s just grown into a really good football player for us,” Franklin football coach Donnie Webb said. “His athletic ability allows him to make big plays and he showed his athleticism against Ravenwood.”

Garner rushed for a 3-yard touchdown and turned two of his four catches into TDs as well during the Admirals wild 31-28 win over the Raptors last week. Garner closed with four catches for 62 yards, including a 40-yard grab. He also returned four kickoffs for 35 yards.

“We put him in some tough positions and at tight end, he isn’t afraid to go out there and block and mix it up,” Webb said of the Murray State baseball commit.

Other top performances recognized last week included Garner’s teammates Beavon, who threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns – his third consecutive game with at least 300 yards passing – and Spierto, who collected career-highs of 12 catches for 116 yards and a TD to go with five tackles.

More top performers included Summit’s Destin Wade, who rushed for 242 yards and threw for 87 yards with a hand in all four Spartan touchdowns in a 28-14 win over Columbia Central; Cade Granzow of Brentwood rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 166 yards and two more TDs in the Bruins 31-28 win over Independence; Chance Fitzgerald of Nolensville hauled in seven catches for 142 yards and the go-ahead touchdown for the Knights in the fourth quarter.

Garner joins the 24 other Gateway Tire Athletes of the Week already recognized this school year.

Past Gateway Tire Female Athletes of the Week for the 2020-21 season include Kaitlyn Vanderkolk of Brentwood; Kennedy Price of Battle Ground Academy; Lauren Starcke of Nolensville; Maison Wells of Brentwood; Gillian Basiden of BGA; Brenna Swiger of Franklin; Mary Oldham of Brentwood, Charley Fulton of Nolensville; Rebecca Frey of Summit; Shaye Eggleston of Brentwood and Alyssa White of BGA.
