Grace Christian Academy senior Mason McKnatt has wrapped up his playing days for the Lions, but the sharpshooter has his name etched in the state record books.
McKnatt, who signed to play basketball at Trevecca and was a recent John Maher Builders Scholar-Athlete, ranks among the state’s elite in free-throw and 3-point shooting all-time. McKnatt sank 598-of-667 free throw attempts in his GCA career for a whopping 89.7%, which ranks as the all-time leader in the state record book, according to the TSSAA.
McKnatt also holds three of the top five individual season highest percentage marks, including third all-time this past season when he sank 91% from the charity stripe.
McKnatt’s 410 made 3-pointers in his four years of high school rank fifth all-time, behind former Franklin standout Reese Glover (424). As an eighth grader, McKnatt actually sank 67 more 3-pointers, but the TSSAA follows National Federation of High School rules and doesn’t include eighth grade statistics for career totals for various reasons. Without this rule, McKnatt’s 477 made 3-pointers would actiulally be good for third all-time behind only Taurean Moore of B.T. Washington (506 from 1998-01) and Corrie Johnson of Hardin County (487 from 1989-93).
McKnatt is tied with Glover for seventh most 3-pointers made in a season with 134 makes from beyond the arc in 2018-19. Glover made 134 the year before and the former Rebel’s 141 made in 18-19 is the fifth most.
Mason McKnatt finished his career with more than 2,600 points. McKnatt will be studying biology at Trevecca this fall.
