Hoops: Postseason surge takes over schedule for WillCo teams

The Region 6-AAA tournament is set to begin Friday at Brentwood High School. There’s also several other Williamson County teams still fighting to stay alive in the basketball postseason.

The big regional at Brentwood opens with the girls games Friday beginning at 2 p.m. with Hillsboro vs. Ravenwood; Antioch vs. Brentwood; Dickson County vs. McGavock and Page vs. Cane Ridge will follow, with the late game scheduled for an 6:30 p.m. start. Due to area weather, games moved up two hours Friday. 

On Saturday, the boys team take over the courts beginning with Hillsboro vs. Ravenwood at 12 p.m. at Brentwood. Brentwood vs. Cane Ridge; Franklin vs. McGavock and Overton vs. Summit will follow with the late game scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start. These games were also shifted up two hours due to weather. 

The Dickson County girls defeated Brentwood to win the District 11-AAA tournament on Monday, while the Franklin boys captured their first district title since 2007 with a 74-65 win over Brentwood on Tuesday

Both the Nolensville boys and girls will also be hosting games Friday and Saturday to open the Region 6-AA tournament. The Lady Knights, who captured the District 12-AA title with a 49-46 overtime win against Marshall County on Monday, will host Hickman County Friday. That game is a 5 p.m. start. 

Like the girls, the Nolensville boys claimed the district title with a 71-66 overtime win against Marshall County to earn first seed at the regional as well. The Knights will host Creek Wood Saturday in the first round of the regional. That game is a 2 p.m. start. 

The Region 6-AA tournament shifts to East Hickman for the semifinals and finals and features another WillCo team in the Fairview boys.

The Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 7 in the state, captured a second straight District 11-AA championship Tuesday with a 74-56 win over Camden. Fairview will host Murfreesboro Central Magnet Saturday night in a region opener.

In Class A, the Grace Christian Academy boys and girls begin Region 4-A tournament play Friday and Saturday as well. The GCA girls, who captured a second straight District 7-A title over the weekend, host Huntland on Saturday. They were scheduled for Friday, but due to weather had to postpone a day. 

The Lion boys open the region tournament on the road at Fayetteville Saturday.

In Division II, the Battle Ground Academy girls fell to University School of Jackson 65-50 in the first round of the DII-A state tournament in Jackson on Tuesday.

Both Christ Presbyterian Academy boys and girls advanced and will host Friday and Saturday. The Lady Lions hosts Northpoint Christian on Friday in a DII-A state quarterfinal, while the Lion boys play at home Saturday against Grace Christian Academy-Knoxville.

The Brentwood Academy girls also host a DII-AA state quarterfinal Friday against St. Agnes Academy, while the Eagles boys host Memphis University in DII-AA quarterfinal on Saturday.
