Hoops Roundup: Beech girls capture MTIT title at Franklin; Page splits with Summertown; Summit girls win

Bri Ellis scored half of her team’s points to lead Beech to a 42-30 victory over Franklin Tuesday night as the Lady Buccaneers captured the 2020 Middle Tennessee Girls Invitational Basketball Tournament at Franklin High School.

Ellis, named the tournament’s most outstanding player, dropped in 13 first-half points, 10 in the first eight minutes, as Beech jumped out to a 24-8 halftime advantage. The junior notched 8-of-12 from the free throw line.

Franklin struggled to find the mark all game long, going nearly 14 minutes at one stretch without a score.

Jean Costello and Brenna Swiger led the Lady Admirals with nine points each. Senior Kate O’Neil came alive in the final seven minutes of the game, scoring all eight of her points in the home stretch.

District foe and archrival Brentwood is scheduled to visit the Admirals on Tuesday, their next scheduled contest.

In the consolation game, Annalise Malone scored 21 points and Amelia Kate Richardson added 14 to lead ten different players that scored in Lincoln County’s 67-40 victory over Chattanooga’s Collegedale Academy. Collegedale led 19-18 after one quarter, but were unable to match that offensive output as the game continued.

Jada McLean led the Chattanooga team with 18 points.

Summertown girls 66, Page 52

Summertown gained some separation before the half with a 17-9 spurt and went on to pick up the non conference victory over Page on Tuesday. 

Katie Burdette led five players with at least nine points by netting 14 to lead Summertown. 

Lili Wilken scored 23 points and McKenzie Cochran added 10 for the Lady Patriots.

The Page boys claimed a see-saw victory on Tuesday behind a big night from Thomas Seaman. Seaman closed with 21 points and teammates Jaime Hernandez and Ethan Overstreet each added a dozen in the win. 

The trio helped offset Gavin Burelson’s 31 for Summertown.

Summit girls 36, Creek Wood 33

Myah Kratzig knocked down three 3-pointers and closed with 11 points, Claudette Runk added nine points and the Summit girls held off Creek Wood Tuesday.

After building a slim 22-18 lead at the half, both teams struggled offensively combining for 29 total points over the next 16 minutes.

Ellie Colson added four points and nine rebounds in the win for the Lady Spartans.

Brianna Burgess had 11 to lead Creek Wood.
