Hoops – Page at Brentwood

Amelia Osgood and Delaney Noe

Tuesday’s District 11-AAA girls basketball clash at Brentwood High School featured the No. 4-ranked Lady Bruins and the 10th-ranked Page girls.

The Brentwood girls closed the third quarter with a 13-2 run and held off the Lady Patriots the rest of the way for a 54-47 victory.

Delaney Trushel led the Lady Bruins with 22 points and 10 rebounds as Brentwood won a 18th consecutive game and improved to 12-0 in district play. Trushel hit six 3-pointers in the game, including three straight in the third as Brentwood pulled away after Page closed within 33-31 after the half.

"It's definitely a big confidence booster, but we still have to stay humble," Trushel said of the win streak. "We still have a game Friday and we have more games to come. We just have to approach them all the same."

Delaney’s twin sister Emily Trushel added 14 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Amelia Osgood also collected a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists to go with three steals.

Page sophomore Lili Wilken finished with 18 points and Olivia Wilson added a dozen for the Lady Patriots, who suffered just their second loss of the season to fall to 19-2 overall. Both losses have come at the hands of Brentwood, which also won 67-55 after the New Year.

The Lady Patriots still hold the No. 2 spot in the district standings with a 10-2 mark.

Brentwood hosts Ravenwood in the second installment of the Battle of the Woods Friday, while Page hosts Spring Hill.

The Bruins bounced back from their first district loss by scoring the final 16 points to stop the visiting Patriots shot of another tight finish.

John Windley scored 20 points to lead Brentwood, while post Evan Drennan provided 14 of his 16 points after the half as Page controlled the glass against the bigger Patriots.

After Page’s Blanne Burrow tied the game at 42-42 with a foul line jumper and only 4:26 to play, the Patriots went ice cold from the field. Drennan stepped out for. A 3-pointer on the next possession, followed by another triple from Jake Brock as Brentwood extended a late lead and didn’t allow a point the rest of the way.

Macen Redner added 11 points in the win for Brentwood (16-5, 10-1).

Mason Allen (11) and Thomas Seaman (10) both reached double figures for the Patriots (13-7, 4-7).

Independence girls 52, Franklin 36

Jailyn Banks dropped in 24 points and the Lady Eagles pulled away in the fourth for a District 11-AAA win at home in Thompson’s Station Tuesday.

Indy (14-6, 8-3) entered the fourth leading 38-30 and outscored Franklin 14-6 the rest of the way to put the game out of reach. Kayla Miller added seven points and Cristy Martinez tallied six in the win.

Kate O’Neil scored 15 points and Wren Doran pulled down nine rebounds to lead Franklin. Lyla Gardner added nine points.

Indy hosts Summit Friday, while the Lady Rebels (5-18, 1-11) host Centennial.
