Kennedy Pendergrass scored 33 points and triggered a big third-quarter run as Fairview gained some separation at Santa Fe for a narrow 77-73 win in the season opener for both schools Tuesday.
Jacob Neal added 12 points and Carter Durham chipped in 10 for the Yellow Jackets, who went on a 21-10 run in the third to overcome a slim 42-40 deficit at the half.
Fairview led by as many as 10 in the third and went 5-of-7 from the foul line down the stretch.
Andy Slaughter dropped in 27 points to lead Santa Fe, but fouled out late in the contest. Westin McClanahan added four 3-pointers and 14 points, while Will Monhollen and Logan Wilkins each scored a dozen.
Fairview girls 74, Santa Fe 35
Rylie Dillingham netted 20 points, Kelsey Gossage had 19 and the Lady Yellow Jackets cruised to a road win Tuesday in Santa Fe.
Fairview jumped out to a 14-3 lead and built a 36-14 advantage by halftime.
Kaycie Mullens and Chloe Lee each added nine points with Mullens knocking down three 3-pointers.
Elise Adkinson scored 10 points to lead the home team.
Nolensville girls 48, Cascade 33
Both Caymin Ladd and Zoe Piller notched double-doubles and the Lady Knights took to the court for the first time since reaching the state semifinals last season.
Nolensville’s season was cut short of playing for a state championship berth because of COVID-19, but the Lady Knights handled a visiting Cascade team Tuesday.
Ladd collected 23 points, 14 steals, seven rebounds and three assists, while Piller tallied 21 points, 12 rebounds and five steals as the pair combined for all but four points for the home team.
Piller was recognized for reaching 1,000 points in her career. She broke the milestone in March and opened the season with 1,046 points.
The Nolensville boys posted a 59-44 win for a sweep of the Champions. Statistics weren’t provided from that contest.
Brentwood Academy boys 69, Lighthouse Christian 27
Trent McNair poured in 31 points and the Brentwood Academy boys opened the season with a lopsided victory at home Tuesday.
Tyler Tanner (14 points) and Drey Moss (10) also reached double-figures for the Eagles, while Alex Rasmussen tacked on nine.
Brentwood Academy girls 76, Providence Christian Academy 54
Jaila Lee scored 25 points and the Lady Eagles opened the 2020 campaign with a road victory at PCA.
After building a 41-35 cushion at the break, BA clamped down defensively and limited the hosts to just 19 points in the second half. The Lady Eagles scored 21 of the final 30 points in the contest as well.
Millie Brown added 17 points in the win.
Maria Edmonds hit four 3-pointers and had 14 to lead PCA.
