Hoops Roundup: Indy sweeps; Dickson County stops Franklin; BGA splits at Columbia Academy; Fairview falls

Hoops — Indy at Summit

The Independence basketball teams claimed a District 11-AAA sweep at Spring Hill Tuesday night.

The Lady Eagles grabbed a 45-37 victory, while the Indy boys blasted the Raiders 60-34.

Independence girls 45, Spring Hill 37

Lindsey Freeman scored 18 points and doubled-up the home team in the fourth quarter to pull away. Indy outscored Spring Hill 12-6 in the final frame and went 8-of-8 at the foul line.

Jailyn Banks added nine points, including 4-of-4 shooting at the line in the fourth, for the Lady Eagles.

Ava Pixley scored 15 points for the Lady Raiders.

Independence improved to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in district play heading into Friday’s home stand against league-leading Brentwood.

Independence boys 60, Spring Hill 34

Matt St. Charles tallied 14 points to lead the Eagles in the district win Tuesday.

Eleven different Indy players reached the scoring column. Cameron Bell added nine points in the win for the Eagles (8-9, 2-4).

Ty Bryant scored 17 for Spring Hill.

Dickson County girls 58, Franklin 36

Sierra Morgan scored 18, Caty Roberts added 17 and the Lady Cougars stopped Franklin in District 11-AAA play.

Dickson County pulled away with a 17-6 run in the second quarter led by a couple 3-pointers and 10 points form Roberts.

Kate O’Neil recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Rebels. Franklin shot just a shade over 30 percent, including going just 1-of-10 from. Beyond the arc, and committed 20 turnovers.

Franklin (4-12, 1-6) plays at Cane Ridge Thursday, while Dickson County heads to Summit Friday.

Dickson County boys 64, Franklin 46

The host Cougars dominated in the fourth quarter to take down the Rebels and former coach Jason Tigert Tuesday.

Dickson County outscored Franklin 25-12 in the fourth quarter to blow open a 39-34 game and stay unbeaten in District 11-AAA.

Reed Kemp poured in 29 points to lead the Rebels, while Matt Thurman had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Battle Ground Academy girls 58, Columbia Academy 41

Lindsey Summarell and Graci Semptimphelter combined for 40 points to nearly match the home team in a contest Tuesday.

Summarell finished with 21, while Semptimphelter had 19, including 7-of-8 foul shooting and nine points in the fourth quarter.

BGA outscored Columbia Academy 19-7 in the fourth to blow open a 39-34 lead to open the frame.

Columbia Academy boys 78, Battle Ground Academy 73

The Bulldogs won a fourth-quarter shootout against visiting BGA Tuesday by nearly doubling their point total over the final eight minutes.

Columbia Academy trailed 42-40 to start the fourth quarter, but poured in 38 points. The Bulldogs went 23-of-27 at the foul line over the final eight minutes.

Tanner Ham scored 20 points and both Drew Butt and Gary Smith Jr. added 17 for Columbia Academy. Ham went 10-for-10 at the foul line in the fourth and scored 16 in the frame.

Garnett Hollis Jr. closed with 21 points to lead BGA. Briston Bennett (14), Jorian Cantrell (13) and Nick Semptimphelter (11) also reached double figures.

Creek Wood girls 60, Fairview 29

Creek Wood exploded for 43 points in the second half and allowed the Lady Yellow Jackets just 13 points after halftime to race to a win Tuesday.

Brianna Burgess scored 14 of her 16 after the half, while Emily Michael added 14 points.

Fairview managed just 4-of-17 shooting in the second half. Kelsey Gossage scored 13 and added five rebounds to lead Fairview. Anastasia Bierly collected seven points and five blocked shots.

The Lady Yellow Jackets moved to 4-2 in District 11-AA play, while Creek Wood stayed unbeaten at 6-0.

Creek Wood boys 67, Fairview 56

Creek Wood made it a sweep in the battle of unbeaten District 11-AA teams Tuesday.

Fairview fell behind early and never recovered in the contest despite three players reaching double figures, led by Bill Eads 18 points. Ryan Stannard added 11 and Kennedy Pendergrass scored 10.

Raekwonn Nesbitt tallied 20 points and Rex Edmondson added 19 to lead the Red Hawks.

Grace Christian Academy girls 50, Webb 37

Anna Smith scored 20 points, Raychel Calvert added 13 and the Lady Lions picked up a win in Bell Buckle.

Lauren Vann led Webb with 18.
