Roundup: Franklin, BGA, BA soccer win; BGA, Ravenwood, Indy volleyball take five-set battles

With both teams coming off Tuesday ties, it was Franklin that struck first in a non-conference girls soccer meeting at Page High School on Thursday.

Brenna Swiger scored the first of her two goals early off a ball from Emma Shields to lead the Lady Rebels. Shields fed Julia Richmond for a 2-0 advantage.

The host Lady Patriots pulled within 2-1, but Swiger notched her second tally – this one assisted by Eliza Paisley. Page scored on a penalty kick, but couldn’t find the equalizer.

Franklin was coming off a 2-2 tie Tuesday. Page battled to a 1-1 draw against Centennial.

Battle Ground Academy 7, Providence Christian Academy 1

Visiting PCA scored in the 8th minute when Abby McFarland slipped in a tally, but the Lady Wildcats shut out the visiting team the rest of the way for the lopsided win.

Sara Evans scored the equalizer from inside the box off a Cat Schrieber pass and Kennedy Price handed BGA the lead at 2-1 in the 27th.

Price scored again in the 33rd, Eva Schrieber added another tally in 39th. Late in the contest, Alyssa White netted back-to-back goals and Scout Speer also found there back of the net. White led the team with two assists, with Price and Keaton Mitchell also handing out assists.

Graci Semptimphelter made four saves in goal for the Lady Wildcats, who next travel to Brentwood Academy after Labor Day on Tuesday.

Brentwood Academy 4, Grace Christian Academy 1

Nolyn Bartholomew netted a hat trick and the Lady Eagles bounced back from a setback against Christ Presbyterian Academy with a win against GCA.

Bartholomew netted the match’s first goal in the 31st on a feed from Ella Portale. She scored again in the 57th.

The Lady Lions got on the board in the 75th, but Bartholomew made it 3-1 with her third goal in the 78th and Taylor Butler followed another in the 79th.

Felicity Chandler made four saves to BA.

Battle Ground Academy def. Grace Christian Academy, 3-2

The Lady Wildcats clinched a district win with a 25-18, 25-18, 24-26, 13-25, 15-13 victory Thursday at BGA.

Christine Jewell notched nine kills and Ally Newkirk served five aces for the hosts, while Jessie Meghreblian scooped up 35 digs to lead the defense. Cambell Dobbs added 15 assists for BGA, which will next. Face Goodpasture on Tuesday.

Blake Drieman shot a 39 to lead Centennial’s golf team to a 175-176 one-stroke win against Page Thursday.
