Soccer – Nolensville vs. Independence, 12-AAA Championship

Madeline Padelski

The Nolensville High School girls soccer team overcame a late goal from Independence to capture the District 12-AAA championship on Thursday in Spring Hill.

The Lady Knights posted a 2-1 overtime victory against Indy after freshman Madeline Padelski scored her second goal of the night in the 95th minute in the second overtime period on a feed from senior Millie Smith.

The match went to overtime when Breanna Justus found the back of the net for the Lady Eagles with just 33 seconds to play. The equalizer knotted the title match at 1-1. The two new rivals battled to a scoreless draw in the regular season three weeks ago.

Padelski scored the first tally early in the first half for Nolensville. The standout freshman has netted 27 goals this season and was coming off a hat trick last week in 9-0 win over Columbia Central in the district semis.

Nolensville will face Franklin in the Region 6-AAA tournament. The Lady Admirals fell to Ravenwood 2-1 on a goal scored in the final 20 seconds of overtime last week.

Ravenwood will play Independence in the other region semifinal.

Nolensville, which finished runner-up in Class AA two seasons ago and lost in a wild shootout in the district tournament last year, tied Franklin 1-1 back on Sept. 7.
