MURFREESBORO – The Division II-A championship is set and it will feature a pair of Middle Region rivals in Battle Ground Academy and defending champion Christ Presbyterian Academy.
The Lady Wildcats edged St. George’s 1-0 in the DII-A semifinals Thursday at the soggy Richard Siegel Soccer Complex to advance to BGA’s first final since stringing three consecutive championship berths together from 2014-16.
The Lady Lions extended their unbeaten streak to 37 consecutive matches with a 3-0 win over University School of Jackson in the other semifinal.
“CPA has been in the final time and time again, so they’re used to being there,” BGA coach Jan Morrissey said of Friday’s championship matchup. “We’ve been here before, too, but this is a new stage for this young group.
“For them to have this experience, we are going to simply try to enjoy the moment and play like we have nothing to lose.”
The Lady Wildcats fell in both meetings against CPA this season, a 3-1 setback in Sept. 19 and a 3-0 loss in the region semifinals on Oct. 17.
“I feel like the last couple times we’ve kind of lacked confidence against CPA, but I feel like this time, we are more equals,” BGA sophomore Kennedy Price said. “We’re both in the finals and we both earned it.
“We just have to go in thee and know that we have the confidence and skill to pull it out.”
Price led BGA with five shots, including three on goal, in the Lady Wildcats 1-0 semifinal win Thursday. Despite playing on a mushy, slippery field, the Lady Wildcats were able to break through when Alyssa White scored the match’s lone goal in the 49th.
White had just checked in and converted after Sarah Evans had her shot blocked.
“This has shown that as a team we can do anything together,” Price said. “And it really is just a big confidence boost for us. I mean, now we just have to buckle down and get our result in the final.”
BGA out-shot St. George’s 9-4 in the second half.

The Christ Presbyterian Academy girls soccer team claimed a 3-0 win against University School of Nashville in the Division II-A semifinals Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019 at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro.
CPA, which finished 19-0-1 last season with the DII-A crown, is poised to complete another unbeaten season after moving to 17-0 on the year with Thursday's win.
Caroline Betts scored twice to lead the Lady Lions back into the final. She’s scored more than 50 goals this season and netted all three tallies against BGA in the region semifinal win.
Emmaline Bartlett opened the scoring against USJ with a goal in the 16th. Betts followed with scores in the 22nd and 32nd.
CPA keeper Mary Carter Logan earned the shutout – her 13th of the season.
Friday’s championship is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
