Independence senior Spencer Jyawook posted the only championship swim for Williamson County competitors at the Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association State High School Swimming and Diving Championships in Knoxville over the weekend.

Jyawook repeated as state champion in the 100-yard Butterfly. He finished in 47.98 seconds to capture the title, besting his preliminary time of 48.21. Jyawook won the event with a 49.35-second swim last year when the state finals where held in Nashville. Jyawook also placed second in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 45.08 ahead of third-place swimmer Samuel Tiblier of Brentwood Academy (45.99).

Brentwood Academy was the top boys team, finishing ninth, while Ravenwood produced an 11th place showing. The Baylor boys and girls swept the team titles in the championships, which included nearly 50 schools.

The Harpeth Hall girls finished second led by junior Gretchen Walsh, who set two new state records in the 50 Freestyle with a sprint of 21.59 seconds. She also set the record in the 100 Free in 46.98 – more than two seconds faster than her top-rated preliminary time. Harpeth Hall’s Alex Walsh added another new state record with a 51.35 swim in the 100 Backstroke, where Centennial’s Zoe Summar placed third.

The Brentwood AquaBruin girls placed fifth as a team, while Centennial (7th), Ravenwood (11th) and Brentwood Academy (15th) all finished in the top 20.

Her finish was the highest among individuals on the girls' side from the county, matching Ravenwood’s Morgan Cartereaux’s runner-up swim in the 50 Freestyle sprint (23.00) where Walsh set a new state record. Hurt also placed fourth in the 100 Butterfly in 55.00 where Jordan Hurt was seventh (56.44) for Brentwood as well.

Cartereaux tacked on a seventh place finish in the 100 free for the Lady Raptors.

Centennial was led by Summar’s third place in the 100 Backstroke and her fourth place showing in the 200 Free where she was edged by .04 seconds by Logan Watson-Brown of Baylor (1:49.86) for third. Independence’s Hannah Jyawook placed sixth in that race as well with time of 1:52.41.
