MURFREESBORO – The Notre Dame girls served as the state volleyball tournament welcoming committee Tuesday for Battle Ground Academy and the Irish saddled the Lady Wildcats with their first loss of the season.

BGA, which entered 18-0, battled Notre Dame to a 25-22 final in the first set in the opening round of the Division II-A Final Four and then lost all momentum as the Irish advanced by tacking on 25-11, 25-15 wins in the next two sets.

The good news for Lady Wildcats is they get to play again, but it’s coming Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in an elimination match at Middle Tennessee Christian School.

BGA will face The King’s Academy, which also fell in straight sets against Goodpasture.

Christine Jewell recorded eight kills and 12 digs to lead BGA in the state opener. Mackenzie Huntington added five kills and Jessi Meghreblian scooped up another dozen digs.

Notre Dame’s length caused issues at the net all match as the Irish pulled away in both the second and third sets.

The Lady Wildcats are in the Final Four for the first time since 2012. They’ll need a win Tuesday afternoon to extend their postseason run in the double elimination tournament.
