The finalists for the fifth annual WILLCO Awards on May 30 were announced Wednesday.

The annual high school sports show, which mirrors the ESPY’s, includes a red carpet event and ceremony honoring the top players, coaches and teams from Williamson County. This year's event is scheduled for May 30 at The Factory at Franklin with the red carpet show slated for a 5:30 p.m. start.

“I feel like there is more parity than ever,” said Jeremy Qualls, the Williamson County Schools Athletic Director and creator of the annual awards show. “In the past you could almost predict some winners, but I feel that this year the media will have a tough vote.”

Among the finalists are reigning Female Team of the Year – the Brentwood Lady Bruins, who won a sixth consecutive state volleyball championship in October. The Franklin boys basketball team is also back to try to defend its title as the Male Team of the Year, as is star player Reese Glover, who was named Boys Basketball Player of the Year in 2018.

Other awards to be announced at the awards show include the Courage Award, the Maher Scholarship Award, the Student-Athlete of the Year; Student Section of the Year, Trainer of the Year, Sponsor of the Year and the presentation of the Director’s Cup.

I think you mean "parity," not "parody" in the Jeremy Qualls quote.
