NASHVILLE – It took five sets for just the second time this season, but the Battle Ground Academy volleyball closed the regular season unbeaten in Division II-A District 3 Middle Region play with a win Friday at Christ Presbyterian Academy.

The Lady Wildcats claimed a 23-25, 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 15-12 win at CPA to secure the top seed in the district tournament and a 12-0 mark in league play.

BGA coach Tatiana Alvarez said Friday’s finale was “the most fun” her team has had all season getting pushed to the edge against a tough Lady Lions team.

“CPA played a great match defensively and they served very tough,” she said. “The girls were able to come together with great offensive edge and relentless defense."

Mackenzie Huntington notched a match-high 16 kills for BGA in the win, while Gillian Baisden added a dozen kills and five blocks and Kearstyn Seay hit for 11 kills.

Campbell Dobbs (29 assists) and Ally Newkirk (21 assists) guided the Lady Wildcats offense, while Jessi Meghreblian scooped up 26 digs.

Anna Kate Clark, Samantha Hutts and Katelyn Calhoun led a balanced attack for CPA. Clark and Hutts both closed with 11 kills and two blocks and combined for 17 digs. Calhoun tallied 10 kills and four blocks.

Sophie Hibsch posted a double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs, while Sara McCormick led the defense with 21 digs. The Lady Lions also received a combined 15 kills and 19 digs from Charlotte Matthews and Bella Hackett.

The district tournament begins Monday with No. 7 Zion Christian Academy and No. 8 The Webb School playing an elimination contest.

On the other side of the Middle Region, Goodpasture captured the top seed at the District 4 tournament, which will also begin Monday.
