The Brentwood volleyball team, the record-tying six-time defending Class AAA champions, will begin postseason play Wednesday in the District 12-AAA tournament.

The district tournament opens Tuesday at Independence High School with three matches: No. 2 Ravenwood battles No. 7 Centennial at 4:30 p.m.; No. 3 Page faces No. 6 Franklin at 6 p.m.; and No. 4 Summit takes on No. 5 Independence at 7:30 p.m.

Brentwood will play the Summit-Independence winner in the semifinals Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The other winners from Tuesday face off at 6 p.m. in the other semifinal with the district championship scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Lady Bruins, which boast a 45-3 record overall, swept through league play with a perfect 12-0 mark – the sixth season in a row producing an unbeaten record in the district. Brentwood’s last loss in regular season district play came in 2013 and the Lady Bruins haven’t lost in the district tournament since 2012 when Ravenwood won the district title and went on to edge Brentwood for the state championship.

Junior Shaye Eggleston leads the Lady Bruins attack averaging 5.8 kills per set. She has 706 kills on the season with .358 hitting to go with 361 digs, 78 aces and 70 blocks – also all team-highs. Fellow junior Rylie Kael (307 kills), along with sophomore Hollye Tate (195 kills) are the other team leaders on the attack. Senior Piper Drazek (1,362 assists) guides the offense, while Kael (355 digs) and junior Haley Sanders (319 digs) join Eggleston as leaders on defense.

Brentwood closed out regular season play with a 25-12, 25-22, 25-14 sweep of Franklin on Oct. 3. Summit and Ravenwood are the only teams to win a set against the Lady Bruins in district play. Brentwood won both contests against the Lady Spartans in four games, and rallied for a 3-2 win against the Lady Raptors to open September.

The second-seeded Lady Raptors held off surging Page for the No. 2 spot in the tournament. Both teams finished 8-4 in district play.

The Lady Patriots won four straight district matches, including a five-set win over Ravenwood on Oct. 1, to finish third. The Lady Raptors won the tiebreaker because a 3-0 sweep in the first meeting.

Senior Madison Bidwell stepped up as the primary weapon for the Ravenwood offense. Junior Kelsie Dawson, freshman Reagan Larkin and sophomore Tanya Sichling have been among the other leaders offensively. Coach Abbey White credited her four seniors for leading her team down the stretch.

Ravenwood swept Centennial in the first meeting and also won 3-1 on Sept. 25.

The Lady Patriots have leaned on seniors Amanda Webb (297 kills) and Anna Mayer (635 assists, 238 digs, 45 aces) for their late season surge. Page tipped Franklin (2-10) in five sets on Sept. 5 and won in four games on Sept. 26.

Fourth-seeded Summit, which closed 7-5 in district play, sat in three-way tie for second with Ravenwood and Page in the last week of regular season play, but fell in five sets at Centennial (1-11) on Oct. 1 and 3-1 at Ravenwood to end the regular season on Oct. 3. Junior Destiny Cherry and senior Ellie Driver lead the Summit charge.

The Lady Spartans won both matches against Independence (4-8) this season – a 3-2 win on Sept. 5 and a 3-0 sweep on Sept. 26.
