Volleyball – Brentwood at Summit

Mary Oldham

The Brentwood volleyball team improved to 3-0 playing without reigning Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year Shaye Eggleston with a four-set District 12-AAA win over Independence Thursday night.

Senior Mary Oldham led the Lady Bruins offense for the third match in a row as the lead hitter for Brentwood with a career-high 23 kills and four blocks on .422 hitting in the 25-14, 18-25, 25-12, 25-23 victory.

Oldham, who has recorded double-figure kills in four consecutive matches, has produced 56 kills in the last three matches, including a five-set win over Summit Tuesday and a sweep of Blackman of Wednesday. The senior’s previous career-best in kills was 18 – set during last season’s state championship win over Houston.

Eggleston is among a handful of Brentwood High School athletes under quarantine due to possible exposure to COVID-19, according to school officials. The Lady Bruins soccer team had to postpone their match Thursday against Ravenwood in a scheduled Class AAA championship rematch due too many players out of the lineup.

On the volleyball court, sophomore setter Dylan Sulcer guided the offense Thursday with a career-high 43 assists to go with 15 digs. Senior libero Haley Sanders anchored the defense with 27 digs. Zoe Oldham added nine kills and Reese Bailey hit for six more with four blocks as well.

Brentwood improved to 13-1 overall and 6-0 in district play. The Lady Bruins extended their regular season district win streak to 86.

Statistics for Independence weren’t provided. The Lady Eagles are 2-4 in league play.

Alexa Jackson (15 kills), Tennyson Gorman (13 kills) and Ashley Hatchett (12 kills) led the Lady Patriots. Elle Woods tacked on 24 digs.

Centennial improved to 1-5 in district play, Page slipped to 0-6.
