Page seniors Amanda Webb and Bubba Johnson swept this week’s Gateway Tire Female and Male Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6.
Webb recorded back-to-back team-highs in kills to help lead the Lady Patriots to a pair of District 12-AAA wins last week, while Johnson scored the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth during Page’s 24-14 win at Summit in Week 7.
The two athletes were chosen as part of the Athletes of the Week awards sponsored by Gateway Tire and Service Center of Franklin. One male and one female athlete from Williamson County is selected and featured each week in the Williamson Herald.
Webb racked up a season-high 23 kills in a five-set win over Ravenwood last Tuesday. She added 10 digs and three aces in the victory. On Thursday, she collected 19 kills and 12 digs in a sweep of Centennial to end the regular season.
“Amanda is a great player and very determined to succeed,” Page volleyball coach Rick Hess said, adding that the senior also boasts one of the highest GPAs in the school. “She is extremely hardworking and does not like to fail so she is extremely motivated on and off the court.”
Page finished tied for second with Ravenwood with an 8-4 mark in district play. The Lady Patriots open district tournament play Tuesday.
On the football field, Johnson rushed 25 times for 141 yards on Friday.
His touchdown run came with 2:02 to play in the crucial Region 5-5A contest against previously unbeaten and then No. 5-ranked Summit. Johnson scored on a 4-yard TD with another huge push from an offensive line that also stepped up to push the visiting Patriots in front. He racked up seven carries for 48 yards on that Page 78-yard scoring drive in the fourth.
“He brings a sense of toughness to the team that inspires his teammates,” Patriots football coach Charles Rathbone said of his senior running back. “Bubba is a great young man with a personality that attracts and motivates those around him.”
Page, which moved into the latest Class 5A statewide poll at No. 10, hosts Centennial in Week 8 on Thursday.
Other nominees for the Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6, included golfers Sophia Dipaola of Franklin and William Griggs of Brentwood.
Dipaolo, a freshman, finished an even 72 at the Region 6 golf tournament at Two Rivers Golf Course in Nashville last week to win the region title and clinch a state berth.
Griggs, who goes by Nolan, finished 2-under 70 to take the boys region title for the Bruins.
