The Franklin High School wrestling team picked up a couple wins in a double dual at Summit Tuesday heading into a big night Thursday at home.

The Rebels edged the host Spartans 39-36 and topped Spring Hill 65-11.

Sophomore Owen Gobel led Franklin with a pair of wins, earning a 9-5 decision over Jackson Masters of Summit at 113 and picking up a second-round pin of Spring Hill’s Brady Morrison up a class at 120. Senior Cooper Grills (170) also earned two wins with a pin and technical fall victory.

The Rebels host an alumni night tri-meet Thursday with Nolensville and Clarksville. Franklin coach Andrew Tomlinson said he hopes to see plenty of former Rebels at the meet.

There will be at least two familiar faces in Nolensville coach Josh Peck and Clarksville headman Tommy Badon.

“There’s a ton of history here at Franklin and we all thought this night would be great one to try and get as many former wrestlers and coaches back in the gym to see this year’s teams,” said Tomlinson, also a former Rebel wrestler.

Badon coached the Rebels for seven seasons from 1992-99, including coaching Tomlinson his freshman season at FHS before accepting a position in Dickson County. Both Peck and Badon wrestled at Franklin in high school as well.

“There’s just a ton of ties,” Tomlinson said. “We want to showcase it and use (Thursday) to bring as many alumni out as possible.”

Tomlinson’s Rebels were coming off a wins against Hume-Fogg and Hillwood and a narrow 39-38 setback against Page last week.

Also on Tuesday, Summit stopped Ravenwood 60-0 with Cody Agnell (106) earning a pin, Miles Grady (160) a technical fall and both Austin (132) and Justin (120) Noll taking decision wins.

Spring Hill also secured a 59-45 win over the Raptors.

In other wrestling action Tuesday, Independence scored a 36-32 win against visiting Fairview. Bradley Vaughn secured the win by pinning Kerry Baker early in the second round for the Eagles in the final match. Russell Ford (120) and Chris Chen (132) also earned pins for the Eagles.

Fairview’s Keegan Seaver (126), Zach Derrick (138), Cody DeLano (195) and Jacob Clevenger (220) all won by pin.

At John Overton High School in Nashville, the Bobcats tipped visiting Brentwood 44-34 taking three straight matches early and back-to-back matches at 145 and 152 to seal the victory.
