BA hammers Manual, 49-6

Brentwood Academy put the pedal to the floor Saturday night against duPont Manual (Ky.) in Louisville, throttling the Crimsons 49-6 with quarterback Trent Caffee throwing for two touchdowns and running for another.

Caffee threw for 117 yards on 5-of-9 completions, including TD tosses to Bill Kottas and John Garrett in the first quarter, and then he took off on a 77-yard TD scamper in the third quarter. Kottas also caught a TD pass from Garrett, and he finished with four catches for 130 yards and the two scores.

BA (1-0) scored twice each in the first, second and fourth quarters, while adding a lone touchdown in the third. Manual did not score until late in the fourth quarter when the outcome was no longer in doubt.

The Eagles rolled up 481 yards of total offense to Manual’s 230. Caffee led BA in total offense with 205 yards and three touchdowns, while Garrett was second with 122 and two touchdowns. No BA back rushed for more than 100 yards, but Ryan White, Caffee and Melvin Pryor all found the end zone on the ground, as the Eagles had 274 total yards rushing.

BA has another road game this week, although it’s just down Wilson Pike in Brentwood. The defending Class 5A state champion Ravenwood Raptors host the Eagles in a rematch of last season’s rain-soaked 20-14 victory by BA, the only loss Ravenwood suffered on its way to winning the state title.
