Led by two-time county champion Paul Swindell (8th grader) and runner up Michael Shears (7th grader), the Grassland Middle School boys golf team won the County Championship Golf Title for the second year in a row by edging out the Brentwood Vikings with a 4-stroke win.
Swindell and Shears both shot impressive scores of 65, helping to secure the repeat championship title. Sixth grader Gavin Clements contributed to victories and low scores all season, posting a solid 76 as did Cole O'Donnel (8th grader) who posted an 84 and Matthew Brewer (8th grader) who posted an 88. Parker Cannon (7th grader) was also a major contributor throughout the season for GMS.
The Generals finished with a team total of 289, a 4-stroke lead over the Brentwood Vikings who finished with a score of 293.
The Brentwood Vikings were consistently good all season, securing the coveted Mayor's Cup midseason and posting solid scores across the board. Placing second in the championship, they were led by Barrett Jones and Drew Howard. Both shot rounds of 72. Trent Johnson finished with a strong 73 while teammate Eli Charron posted a 76 and Ethan Goodheart an 81.
Sunset Middle School won the Williamson Middle Athletic Association girl’s golf championship on Oct. 3 at the Fairways of Spencer Creek in Franklin.
Team members Ann Catherine Blackburn and Caroline Groves teamed to shoot a 78.
Page Middle School earned second place and Brentwood Middle School was third.
Blackburn won the individual title with a one over par score of 34. Annie Paris of BMS finished second, PMS’ MacKenzie McGrath was third, and Groves was fourth.
