BREAKING NEWS: Ravenwood hires Hester to take over football program

Ravenwood High School has made Will Hester the fifth head football in Raptor history this morning, hiring the Brentwood native away from his alma mater.

“I am very excited about the future of Ravenwood football,” Hester said. “I have witnessed first-hand the enthusiastic support this tight-knit community generates for its young people, school, and football program. My love and excitement for the game is contagious. I will encourage the highest level of involvement from the student body, their parents, as well as the entire Raptor Family. My vision for Ravenwood football is clear and I will work tirelessly until the job is done.”

Hester has 14 years of coaching experience, most recently as an assistant coach at Brentwood High School. During his time with the Bruins, he took on roles as both defensive coordinator and offensive line coach under head coaches Ron Crawford and Mark Pemberton.

As defensive coordinator, Hester helped the Bruins hold five opponents scoreless and allowed 11 points per game for a squad that advanced to the Class 6A quarterfinals.

“Because of Coach Hester’s strong connection to the community and his extensive football experience, he is a natural for the job,” said Ravenwood Principal Pam Vaden.

Prior, Hester was head coach at LaVergne High School for the 2007 through 2009 seasons where he totaled a 9-21 record.

The announcement ends a two-month coaching search that started with Ravenwood parting ways with former coach Joe Rietveld on Nov. 8.

Rietveld led the Raptors to a 5-15 record in his two seasons on Wilson Pike, missing the playoffs in each year. In those 20 games, Ravenwood was outscored 564-211.
