Independence’s girls basketball team got a scare from Ravenwood Tuesday night before surviving with a 38-33 win on Wilson Pike.
Tied 33-33, Laina Buche hit a 3-pointer with 1:15 remaining to put Indy on top for good. Gretchen Peterson hit two free throws with two seconds remaining to seal the win.
Independence (15-7, 5-1) led by as many as nine points in the second half only to see Ravenwood (10-13, 1-6) surge back. Lexi McKay tied the game 22-22 late in the third quarter from the foul line – just as she did in the fourth period.
Buche led the Lady Eagles’ charge in the final eight minutes, scoring seven of her 11 points in the final quarter. Hannah Winters had a team-high 12 points for Indy.
