Rain shortens Raptor Classic

Rain washed away the semifinals and finals of the Raptor Classic softball tournament Saturday, but not before the eight teams in the competition played two pool play games and one round of bracket play.

Ravenwood was undefeated in their three games while fellow District 11-AAA foe Franklin finished 2-1. Goodpasture was the only other team in the field who finished without a loss.

The Lady Raptors started the day with a 1-0 victory over Richland in which Raygan Greer struck out nine.

Greer did one better the following game, striking out 10 in Ravenwood’s 2-0 win over Houston.

Ravenwood needed a late-inning comeback in their bracket game against Ezell Harding. After giving up three runs in the top of the sixth to trail 3-2, the Lady Raptors scored two in the bottom of the frame for the victory.

Franklin started the tournament in good form, beating Lipscomb Academy 5-0 followed by an 8-2 win over Harpeth.

The Lady Rebels faltered in their bracket game though, losing to previously winless Richland 2-0.

Franklin next plays a 5:30 p.m. contest today at Dickson County while Ravenwood has the day off before hosting Centennial at 6 p.m. on April 2.
