Head coachless Brentwood first to start spring football
By Marcus Stone, Sports Editor
The season for spring football practices is upon us in Williamson County as a handful of schools kick off in the coming weeks.
Ironically, the first school scheduled to practice is Brentwood – the only squad currently without a head coach. Despite Mark Pemberton leaving the Bruins to become head coach at Rhea County a week ago, Brentwood will take to the practice field April 22 unless a new coach is hired before then.
Assistant Mark Matykiewicz will lead the practices along with fellow coaches Tom Crawford, Pat Curran, and Stephan Slowey.
“We’re going to work pretty hard on fundamentals,” Matykiewicz said. “We don’t want to put in a scheme or work anything in then have someone come in and have to put something in different.”
Brentwood’s goal is to have a coach hired by Monday.
A team of 68 players will practice four days this week and next before scrimmaging Siegel High Shool on May 9.
Spring practice starts:
Battle Ground Academy: May 7
Brentwood Academy: April 29
Brentwood: April 22
Centennial: April 29
Fairview: May 6
Franklin: April 23
Independence: April 29
Page: April 29
Ravenwood: April 25
Summit: May 2
