Mingus on front row at Talladega
By Joe Williams, For the Williamson Herald
High school senior and Williamson County resident Mason Mingus will start on the outside of the front row this afternoon in the Talladega ARCA 250, a support event for this weekend’s NASCAR race. Milka Duno will start first, covering the 2.66-mile distance in just over 1/10 of a second quicker than Mingus.
The Franklin Road Academy wrestling and track standout turned heads earlier this year in his Diamond Equipment/Call 811 Toyota with a strong finish at Daytona and a pole start in Mobile, Alabama. Those events left the 18-year-old tied in the national point standings with nine-time Automobile Racing Club of America champion Frank Kimmel.
Kimmel now holds a 30 point edge over Mingus after finishing three spots ahead of the youngster at Kimmel’s home track, the extremely fast Salem Speedway in Indiana two weeks ago.
The race will be broadcast live on cable’s SPEED Channel, with a 4 p.m. scheduled start.
