Hall of Fame ceremony upcoming for Biddle
By Marcus Stone, Sports Editor
Williamson Herald Sports Columnist Joe Biddle will be honored July 11 as one of three members being inducted to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Hall of Fame Class of 2013.
“It is a humbling honor to go into the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Hall of Fame,” Biddle said. “I am a native Tennessean which makes it even (more) special.”
Biddle, who has over 30 years of experience, began writing weekly columns for the Herald in August 2012. A Johnson City native and a US Air Force veteran, Biddle has worked for The Banner and The Tennessean – amongst other publications in Middle Tennessee throughout his career.
“I spent a great 31 years at 1100 Broadway and was fortunate to cover major sporting events in places a boy from Johnson City never dreamed possible,” he said. “It’s something I will cherish the rest of my life.”
Biddle will share the stage with fellow honorees John Adams and Harold Harris, both of the Knoxville News Sentinel.
“I have been a Joe Biddle fan since I came to Nashville in 1994 and Joe was at The Banner,” said Herald Publisher Derby Jones when he learned of Biddle’s induction. “It was an honor for Joe to start writing for us last year after many years at The Banner and The Tennessean. He brings so much experience and knowledge from all his years covering sports in this market, and we are lucky to have him.”
