Brentwood’s Mingus still in ARCA hunt

Brentwood native Mason Mingus remains in second place in the Automobile Racing Club of America point standings at the half-way mark of the season, just 165 markers behind 9-time champion Frank Kimmel.
Mingus finshed 6th at Chicagoland Speedway last weekend and heads to New Jersey Motorsports Park, a road course, this weekend.
“I think we’ll have a really good Call 811 Before You Dig Toyota this week,” he said from a practice session in South Carolina on Tuesday. “New Jersey was the first road course I had raced on when we were there last year. It was a big learning experience.”
The recent Franklin Road Academy graduate has turned several heads in the series, one of the top four in the nation, with his ability to adapt to the many different types of tracks the series visits, from Daytona and Talladega to one-mile dirt tracks to high-banked asphalt short-tracks like Mobile (AL) and Salem (IN).
The fact that in his first full season he is also keeping in step with Kimmel, a legend in ARCA circles, has many even outside of the series watching his progress. Mingus has ten Top Ten finishes in the first eleven races of the year.
Mingus is looking forward to this weekend’s visit to the road course in New Jersey.
“We’ve got a good chance to maybe make up some of those points,” he said, “because Frank and I have basically the same amount of experience at this track, kind of leveling the playing field. He’s got like thousands of laps of experience at every other race track we go to and I don’t.”
The race in New Jersey is scheduled for a noon Franklin time green flag on Sunday.
