Where are they now? BGA

Battle Ground Academy is up next on our “Where are they now?” college football series. With seven players active in NCAA football, BGA has a diverse group including an Army football legacy, a starting defensive end at Carson Newman, a Yale engineer, a possible future Big 10 Conference starting quarterback and a trio of players at Tennessee Tech.
Jay Tully, Army (BGA Class ‘08) Fullback
Tully is in his final year of eligibility of college football. The former Wildcat team captain originally signed with Samford and rushed twice for 13 yards in 2008. The 200 pound back followed his family tradition becoming the fourth generation to attend West Point. Great-grandfather Harvey J. Jablonsky was the 1933 Army team captain and member of the College Football Hall of Fame (1978).
Jamar Neal, Carson Newman (BGA Class ’09) Defensive End
Neal has started four games for the Eagles this season. In those four games, the junior defensive end has 11 total tackles including his first career sack against Colorado Mines. In nine games as a sophomore, Neal totaled 38 tackles with three stops for loss yardage.
Josh Smith, Tennessee Tech (BGA Class ’11) Wide Receiver
The sophomore wideout appeared in the Golden Eagles’ first game of the season vs. Cumberland but did not record any statistics. Smith played one season at Lindsey Wilson College in 2011 as a defensive back. As a DB, Smith played in eight games recording 12 tackles and three pass break-ups.
Jordan Smith, Tennessee Tech (BGA Class ’12) Wide Receiver
In his sophomore campaign, Smith has three grabs for 21 yards. As a true freshman last season, Smith totaled 5 catches for 79 yards and a 62-yard touchdown against North Greenville. The Athletic Director’s Honor Roll member is expected to be a key receiver throughout this season.
Matt Martin, Tennessee Tech (BGA Class ’12) Offensive Line
The big redshirt freshman is listed as the starting left offensive tackle for the Golden Eagles. At 6’5, 300 pounds, Martin worked his way into the starting lineup with relentless work in the weight room during his redshirt year and a strong performance in the spring. Martin has missed two games this season.
C.J. Beathard, Iowa (BGA Class ’12) Quarterback
Beathard is listed as the second string quarterback for the Hawkeyes in his redshirt freshman season. The former “Mr. Football Award” runner-up has seen action in one game against Western Michigan this season. Beathard went 1-3 through the air with his completion going for 54 yards. Against the Broncos, the dual-threat QB showed off his legs with 4 carries for 30 yards.
Blake Thomson, Yale (BGA Class ’12) Linebacker
Thomson is in his second year as a Yale Bulldog, but has not seen any action through the first three games this season. As a true freshman in 2012, Thomson played in four games, starting three at middle linebacker. Credited with 14 total tackles with two tackles for loss, he intends on majoring in biomedical engineering at Yale. Thomson scored a perfect  36 on his ACT in high school.
