Ravenwood volleyball in state finals for fifth straight season

With a strong 13-1 run at the end, Ravenwood beat Brentwood 25-19 in the fourth set to close out the winner's bracket finals match and advance to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association's Class AAA Volleyball Championship tomorrow at  6 p.m. at Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.
It is the fifth straight year for Ravenwood to be in the finals, with the Raptors looking for a four-peat.
The victory was the fourth of the year for the Raptors over the Bruins, who had taken of the six matches and came as a result of overcoming a 10-1 Brentwood run that left Ravenwood trailing 18-12.  Kat Hutson, who was rested for much of the Bruin run, returned to help spark the comeback, with Sophia Cerino and Emily Svennevik blocking nearly everything Brentwood fired over the net.
The Bruins took the opening set 25-21 before Ravenwood ripped off three straight, 25-20, 25-21, 25-19.
Brentwood could get another shot at Ravenwood in the championship game, but must first get past the winner of the Siegel and Dobbyns-Bennett match up Thursday afternoon.  If Brentwood wins, it will set up a state championship match at Murphy Center just like 2012, when Ravenwood came back from being down to make runner-ups of the Bruins.
