Nick Madonia kicked a 28-yard field goal in the opening possession of overtime and Tyrell Dodson scooped up a fumble on Dickson County’s possession to end the game and give Centennial (5-4, 3-2 District 11-AAA) a 41-38 win.
“When you win a game this time of year and your back’s against the wall, you absolutely have to like it,” said CHS head coach Brian Rector.
“I’m really proud of the defense (for the fumble). That’s the kind of passion we’ve really been pushing them to play with. If we can do that more often without it being overtime, it would be awful nice.”
Deon Sanders ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns and Emanuel Hall added 89 yards and a score to help Centennial build a 31-21 lead going into the fourth quarter. It was also aided by Owen Roth’s 181 yards through the air. Hall was his favorite target, with the junior catching 9 passes for 135 yards and a score.
Dickson County (1-9, 1-5 District 11-AAA) got another big night from running back Otis Gerron, who rushed for 292 yards and completed DCHS’s only pass in their last game of the year.
Centennial has one more regular season contest, a long-await match-up at Franklin next week. Both teams are 3-2 in the district and hopes for a play-off spot rest on the outcome of that game.
