First week of basketball, wrestling under way

Football’s regular season is headed for an end this Friday, but basketball and baseball is just getting starting, holding the first day of official practice three days ago.
For Brentwood is once again targeted to win the district on the boys’ side based on pre-season expectations.  There will be a couple of differences in District 11-AAA this year.  Gone is Hillsboro, whose boys and girls teams were usually in the mix at the top, while Summit and Dickson County join as unknown wildcards.
The Lady Bruins find themselves in the same boat as their counterparts, as pre-season discussions have centered on the race for the girls title to being solidly in Brentwood’s favor with everybody else fighting for second.
The district may be as topsy-turvy as basketball this year, with a couple of coaching changes. Williamson County’s star in the state wrestling world has been on a major rise the past three years and with both the team and individual state finals being held at the Ag/Expo Center, local athletes have extra incentive to advance.
Several return hoping to find their way back to the state finals.
Brentwood Academy returns the most medalists from last year with Justin Becci (106), Christian Dilucchio (113), Jacob Cretin (182), Josh Greet (195) and Tucker York (285).  Battle Ground Academy returns Matthew Klett (106) and Jonah Newman (120), giving the county ten favorites for top finishes in Division II.
In Division I, Class AAA, four medalists return follow a class heavy in seniors.
Brentwood’s Luke Hamilton (138), Centennial’s Nick Patton (138), Independence’s Robbie Allen (132) and Taylor Warren (152) and Rex Shotts (220) from Ravenwood all medaled at the state individual championship event and look to repeat.
Pre-season “scrimmage” events begin Saturday.
