Seven teams in play-offs; 2 get byes

Seven Williamson County teams have advanced to at least the first round of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association football play-offs, with the two Division II teams receiving first round byes.

Brentwood Academy (7-3, 4-2) in Division II-AA and Battle Ground Academy (7-3, 3-0)  in Division II-A both will have Friday night off based on their finishes.  BGA won their district with the perfect record while the Eagles were third in Division II-AA’s Middle/East district behind MBA and Ensworth.

The Eagles will travel to Briarcrest (4-6) in Memphis next week, while BGA will host the winner of the Donelson Christian Academy (8-2, 3-2) at First Assembly Christian School (9-1) contest in Memphis.

District 11-AAA champ Ravenwood (9-1, 6-0) grabbed a #2-seed in Quad 2 in class 6A and will hosts Cane Ridge (6-4, 5-2) Friday night.  A win would set a meeting between the Raptors and either Blackman or Smyrna on Wilson Pike the following week.  Quad 2 includes Siegel and the top ranked team in the state, Murfreesboro Oakland.

In Class 6A’s Quad 3, Independence (7-3, 5-1) grabbed the fifth seed and will travel to Rossview (9-1, 6-1 District 10-AAA) in the Clarksville area.  Rossview has scored 48 or more points in six of their ten games, including a 67-0 blow-out of Springfield.

Franklin, placed as the #7 seed in the same 8-team quad, will have to travel to Station Camp (8-2, 6-1 District 9-AAA) in Hendersonville.  The Rebels (8-2, 4-2) will face a team that beat four Class 6A play-off teams in the regular season, but lost to Class 4A Pearl-Cohn 49-28.

Class 3A Fairview (9-1, 6-1) pulled down the highest Division I seed in the county at second in Quad 3.  The Yellow Jackets open the play-offs by hosting former district mate Harpeth (6-4, 2-4) Friday night.  A win would put Fairview at home again, facing the winner of the Westmoreland-East Hickman game.  An East Hickman win this week would set up a district rematch with Fairview.  The Yellow Jackets beat East Hickman 34-10 in Week Five.

Page (5-5, 2-3) is back in the play-offs, but as a 7-seed faces a long trip to White House (8-2, 6-0 District 9-AA) to open the Class 4A championship run.  A second straight first round upset, though, could send the Patriots to either Greenbrier or Lexington.

All games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. local time kick-off.
