Ravenwood pours on the points, beats Cane Ridge 47-26
By Herald Sports
Ravenwood traded punches early with Cane Ridge before breaking open a close game in the second quarter and rolling to a 47-26 victory in the first round of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Class 6A playoffs.
Cane Ridge pounded the ball on the ground early and capped a drive with a 2-yard scoring run from Cortland Owens. The Raptors responded immediately with a 77-yard kickoff return by Austin Burt to tie the game at 7 before the Ravens got another short run to reclaim the lead only to have Ravenwood knot the score again at 14 at the end of the first quarter on a 20-yard pass from Avery Jankowski to Chris Wein.
Jankowski controlled the second quarter, leading the Raptors to a 28-yard field goal from Ethan White, then finding Seth Rowland from two yards out for a touchdown and adding another on a four-yard run of his own, giving Ravenwood a 31-14 lead at the half.
White added a 21-yard field goal in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 34-14 before Nick Fuqua broke loose on a 60-yard scamper to close the score to 34-20. But Ravenwood answered again when Daniel Fountain popped in from 15 yards out. The Raptors added a final score late on a Chris Rowland 9-yard scoring run.
Jankowski had another standout night statistically, hitting 18 of 24 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns to go with his rushing score. His favorite targets did not get to the end zone, but 9 completions to Van Jefferson for 87 yards and 6 catches for 90 by Austin Percy opened up the scoring for others.
Jeb Stewart again led the defense with 13 tackles and Will Johnson had two sacks. The unit forced six fumbles with Taylor Warren, Jeffery Yoshihara and John Cockerham claiming one each.
The 10-1 Raptors will get another home game next week, hosting Blackman in what could well be the Mid-State’s marquee contest. The Blaze (9-2) beat Smyrna 42-0, out gaining the Bulldogs 407-99.
