Ravenwood one match from wrestling championship

 Ravenwood’s wrestling team is one match away from competing for the state Class AAA championship.

The Raptors handled both Cookeville and Johnson City Science Hill with relaive each, winning 36-24 and 38-24 in the first two sessions.  But Ravenwood, ranked ninght in the state, faces off against Cleveland, the top ranked team in the state at 1 p.m. today at the Williamson County Ag/Expo Center.  A win puts Ravenwood in the championship match at 7 p.m. against either Wilson Central or Soddy Daisy; a loss would drop them into the consolation semi finals at 3 p.m.
Brentwood got off to a good start, beating Collierville 36-29 before running into Soddy Daisy, the state’s fifth ranked team.  The Bruins dropped a 49-27 decision, putting them into the consolation bracket where they will face either Maryville or Cookeville at 11 a.m. this morning.
Brentwood Academy’s shot at a state title ended early, as the Eagles lost to #2 Father Ryan 63-18 in the first round of the Division II event.  The Eagles will meet St. Benedict at Auburndale  at 9 a.m.
The Small School Invitational, designed for small Division II schools, opens at 11 a.m. with BGA taking on St. Georges.  A win for the Wildcats will place them in the finals at 3 p.m. against either FRA or Ensworth.  A loss sends BGA to the consolation finals at 1 p.m., again versus either FRA or Ensworth.
