Fifteen Williamson County wrestlers have made the semi-finals in their respective weight classes at the TSSAA State Wrestling Championships at the Williamson County Ag/Expo Center.
Eleven of those participants come from the ultra competitive Division I, Class AAA group, where the eventual champion will have to win five straight matches. And in three weight classes, it could be an all-county final.
Luke Hamilton (Brentwood) and Nick Patton (Centennial) are both in the semi’s and could meet in the 145-pound finals tomorrow night. Patrick Dooley (Franklin) and Robin Klingensmith (Ravenwood) could see each other again tomorrow night at 160 pounds, while Josh Filbey (Franklin) and Rex Shotts (Ravenwood) could guarantee the county a 220-pound title with wins tomorrow morning.
Other still in the hunt in Class AAA include Dillian Friesner (Independence-106), Kyle Lee (Franklin-120), Taylor Warren (Ravenwood-152), Dmitry Searle (Brentwood-170) and Gheorghe Meyer (Franklin-182).
In Division II, Brentwood Academy has three of their original eleven still stalking state championships. Justin Becci (113), Jacob Cretin (195) and Tucker York (285) are all still alive, along with BGA’s Braxton Kinney at 132-pounds. Three consecutive victories are required to snag the gold in Division II.
Several others are still in the running for third place medals, with consolation bouts continuing this evening in the 6 p.m. session, along with the semi-finals of the championship bracket.
