Waggin n Braggin event leashes big donors
Williamson County Animal Control and Adoption Center (WCAC) and Williamson Animal Services, Inc. (WAS) announce that the proceeds from their Sept. 15, 2012 Waggin n’ Braggin event topped $7,000. In addition, five adult dogs were adopted into new families during this year’s event, hosted by Gallery 202 in Franklin.
More than 250 people attended the free public event that featured a silent auction, pet vendors, free hot dogs, pet adoptions, and T-shirt sales. Highlights of the silent auction items were a custom pet portrait by Gallery 202 owner and artist Kelly Harwood and a round-trip ticket on Southwest airlines. A custom Waggin n’ Braggin T-shirt designed by Twine Graphics was also on sale, featuring a new dog and cat mascot for the shelter.
The event also featured MAC-the new Mobile Adoption Center, a customized, climate-controlled pet adoption trailer that can hold up to 12 dogs and cats. WCAC director Doug Brightwell said that a trailer like MAC had been on his wish list for several years, and that it provides “a wonderful safe environment for transporting animals to our many adoption events. The trailer is state-of-the-art, and we are so pleased to have it.”
Brightwell also announced that during the Waggin n’ Braggin event, an anonymous friend of WCAC made a designated donation for the construction of a new 25-foot by 100-foot dog run (for shelter dogs only) behind WCAC’s facility on Claude Yates Dr. “We are thrilled,” he said, “that our large dogs will now have such an expanse to play in as well as to interact with prospective adoptive families.”
“All in all, Waggin n' Braggin was a huge success,” said Brightwell, “and we thank our host Kelly Harwood at Gallery 202, our numerous sponsors, our loyal volunteers and the caring folks in Williamson County who attended.”
