Leslie Fender, in the background, and his horse Angel, stopped in Franklin today for a bite to eat at McCreary’s downtown. The pair enjoyed the sunshine and the conversations of many who passed by as a horse standing completely still in a parking space is not a frequent sight on Main Street.
On April 1 Fender and Angel left Dublin, Texas on a kind of circuitous route to Evergreen, Ala. They went by way of Florida and Michigan.
Fender explained, “I went to Michigan to see my sons, my ex-wife and my sisters.”
He said he had a new appreciation for life. “I had a major stroke eight years go and surgery a year later.
The doctor put a stint in my brain and now I am thankful for everyday.”
This is not his first trip to Franklin, he said, but the most recent trip was many years ago. “Franklin has changed a lot,” he said.
Fender and Angel expect to reach their destination in Evergreen, Ala. by Christmas Day.
