Basin St. Blues was the theme for this year’s annual Mardi Gras Ball at the Embassy Suites, Feb. 9. The evening benefited My Friend's House, a private, nonprofit organization, serving abused, neglected and at-risk youth by providing for their physical, social, emotional, spiritual and educational needs. This year's Mardi Gras Ball King and Queen were the Duke and Duchess of Safire – Jeff Hopmayer and Bridget Shaw, who raised more than $15,000. The Duke and Duchess of Diamond, Travis McVey and Courtney Nunnally raised more than $13,000; Duke and Duchess of Ruby, Patrick and Susan Moody, raised more than $10,000 and Duke and Duchess of Emerald, Bill and Laurie Dobbs, raised more than $6,000.
In total, the sold-out event with a record 420 guests raised about $114,000 to provide services to assist families become a functioning and whole unit once again.
