101st Airborne division wins Rotary Golf Classic

Ft. Campbell’s 101st Airborne Division golf team won the Oct. 14 Franklin Rotary Golf Classic at Legends.

The 23rd
annual fundraiser for the Franklin Breakfast Rotary Club included 140 players on 35 teams playing to support Rotary’s diverse charities.

Each year the Rotary Club invites the Ft. Campbell team along with local police and fire fighters.

The Ft. Campbell team included MAJ. Dean Scaletta, MAJ. Fran Marks, LT. Morgan Montgomery, and SSG. Clanton Lemon.  LT. Montgomery is a member of the national Army golf squad.

Rotary President Mike Alexander stated “the event was a complete success. The Annual Golf Classic provides the money for the year to benefit local charities.”  These include, for example, The Boys & Girls Club, Boy Scouts, Feed America First and Grace Works, plus scholarships to students for colleges, and other activities.  “The club also distributes dictionaries to nearly every third grader in the County.”

All of the net proceeds from the golf tournament is used to fund charities.

In addition, the Franklin Breakfast Rotary Club supports both local and International water supply projects under its Starfish program.  The local program subsidizes water and sewer connections in Williamson County and Habitat for Humanity.  Starfish International, under the leadership of member Frank Emerson, supports projects in Guatemala to bring clean water to schools and institutions serving children.  Each year, members of Rotary journey to Guatemala to build water supply and filtration systems.

The annual event is broadly supported by local businesses and citizens of Franklin, in addition to the golf teams.  Major supporters of the Rotary Golf Classic include Franklin Synergy Bank, Williamson Medical Center and Signs First of Franklin. Other sponsors include All Service Propane Ameresco, Buerger, Moseley & Carson, First Farmers Bank, Franklin American Mortgage Company, Rock City Construction, and Vanderbilt Health Williamson.

Community sponsors include Carson & McKinney, CPAs, Patent Lawyer Jerry Sewell, Mayor Ken Moore, Peoples State Bank, Ryan Search & Consulting, SIMA International, Smiley CPAs, and Toyota of Cools Springs.
