In January, local Five Points Post office owner Jeff Nicholls turned in his paperwork to not renew the lease as the operator of the Five Points Post office in downtown Franklin. His lease expires next week, May 31.
A note on the door of the post office reads that USPS is still in the process of finding a new owner and the post office will be closed temporarily after May 31 until a new owner is chosen by the United States Post Office.
Nicholls took over the Franklin Five Points post office in April 2020, but now the entrepreneur is ready to move on from the postage business.
“I have enjoyed my time in Franklin and have a heart for this post office,” Nicholls said. “I wanted to make sure to give potential operators time to get their application in,” Nicholls said in a Feb. 2 article in the Williamson Herald.

Nicholls has moved to Thompson’s Station, and feels the timing is right for him to pass the torch.
“I have really enjoyed the people, my staff, and I love the history of this building,” he said. "I want it to succeed.”
Nicholls went on to say that customers with PO boxes will still receive mail but if they receive a large package, they will need to go to the Oak Meadow post office to pick up. “Customers with PO boxes that receive large packages will receive a note to go pick up.”
A note on the door said that mail will still be picked up outside in the blue box each weekday and Saturday.
For other mailing needs the Main Franklin Post Office is located at 810 Oak Meadow Drive. The phone number is 615-599-4840.
